It was a day of media frenzy for the district’s inaugural Media Day held this past Saturday at the Field of Dreams. The event, hosted by LCPS.TV, brought together the district’s communications, athletics, activities and fine arts departments to spotlight student athletes and marching band members ahead of the 2025 fall season.
More than 70 students from football, volleyball, cross country, soccer and marching band participated in the event, proudly representing their schools in a unique media experience designed to highlight their skills and build momentum for the fall season.
"The collective effort to see the celebration of all students in all sports at the same level was the biggest celebration," said Michelle Ronga, Athletic Director for LCPS.
Throughout the day, students rotated through five interactive stations. At the media press table, they answered questions from reporters representing local and regional outlets in Las Cruces. A photography station was set up to capture professional headshots for team rosters, press kits and promotional materials. On the field, students took part in a skills showcase, having fun and demonstrating athletic abilities and school spirit in front of their peers, coaches and staff.
“I think one of the big successes of the day was having the NMAA present to engage students from the south, or as we call it, the 575 area. We understand they aren’t logistically close to here, but since we’re the second biggest city in the state, having our kids represented was a wonderful opportunity for them,” said Michelle Ronga, Athletic Director for LCPS.
A social media station gave students the chance to create content in real time, producing reels, stories and posts that highlighted the day’s excitement for their school platforms. The event included a roundtable discussion moderated by media students from Mesa Middle School. It gave students the opportunity to share their thoughts on leadership, teamwork and what it means to represent their school communities.
