Las Cruces Public Schools celebrates its award winners from the inaugural LCPS Tell the Story Film Showcase. The two-night red carpet event took place at Cineport 10 Allen Theaters, where students competed in two separate events, the 48-Hour and 168-Hour film competition.
Columbia Elementary won first place in the 168-hour film competition for the Elementary School division for their film titled: “The Great Heist,” filmmakers were Jasmine Holland, Juan Castro, Adrian Trujillo, Nathaniel Franks, Angela Amaya, Kasidee Sedillo, and Mitzel Espinosa.
Mesilla Valley Leadership Academy earned a first place trophy in the 168-Hour category for the Middle School division for their film: “Theft Mess,” by student filmmakers, Promise Doyal, Aiden Wojtko, Calvin Chastine, Piper Gandy, and Liana Brown.
Arrowhead Park Early College High School took home a first place gold trophy for the 48-hour film competition with their film: “Last Day,” by student filmmakers, Konnor Clifton, Aldo Gonzalez, Kcenia Gwaltney, Keyon Mamali, Axton Pollard, Nathan Willis, and Denzel Wright.
There were three divisions, elementary, middle and high school. Students took on the challenge of coming up with a storyline, adapting it to a script, then filming, acting, directing, producing, and editing it all together within the 48 hour and 168 hour film competition deadline.
More than 200 student filmmakers participated in the film showcase. There were 59 non-competitive films and 7 competitive films submitted. Each student produced movie included elements that students had to incorporate in their film as part of the competition.
Students, families, and community members were invited to attend the LCPS Tell the Story Film Showcase to watch student produced films on the silver screen. The event included two screenings on the first night of the 59 films. The second night included a third screen of the student films, followed by an award ceremony.

The back-story behind the idea for the Tell the Story Film Showcase:
During the 2022-2023 school year, Las Cruces Public Schools installed a broadcast lab at every school site. This K-12 initiative is the realization of Dr. Karen Trujillo’s vision for LCPS – that all campuses would have the tools to tell the story of their school.
Through the years, LCPS has established a tradition of excellence in the areas of broadcast media, journalism, and filmmaking. In 2023, LCPS was excited to take the next big step in telling our story.
